Radio powers on – record growth signals a thriving Australian audio landscape
01.10.24
Commercial Radio & Audio (CRA) welcomes another record-breaking milestone, with commercial radio’s share of listening climbing to 75.1%. This figure not only surpasses last survey’s record but also marks the highest level since 2014, highlighting the vibrancy of Australia’s audio landscape. This growth is largely fuelled by the rise of digital distribution, which has allowed radio to adapt and maintain its audience reach. Commercial DAB+ only stations are making their mark, with TSL rising by 26 minutes year-on-year to 6 hours and 39 minutes per week.

Radio Proglas: The future is in DAB+
26.09.24, Czechia
Radio Proglas is facing a major change in the distribution of its signal. The technologies used so far, such as satellite DTH reception and FM transmitters, are slowly fading into the background, while the future is looking towards DAB+. “DTH reception is on the decline because it ties the listener to the TV set, which does not suit radio. DAB+, on the other hand, offers mobility and a more modern way of listening,” says Martin Holík, director of Radio Proglas. DAB+ network operators already cover a large part of the territory, allowing Proglas to reduce its dependence on older analogue FM transmitters in the future.
