Calrec’s Assist Web UI provides users with a virtual desk, available on any device running Chrome as a browser, wherever in the world users are. Assist works over TCP/IP and has minimal control lag, making minor adjustments easy and quick. The demonstrations show Assist controlling a Type R core, with other variants of Assist able to control Calrec’s remote production technology RP1, the VP2 virtualised console, as well as Apollo and Artemis desks.
Assist is easy to set up by simply typing in the IP address that is served from the centrally located core in a web browser to give users access to all the console controls via an easy-to-use and clearly laid out graphical interface.
Anthony Harrison, International Sales Manager with Calrec, says, “As we move forward through this unprecedented situation, broadcasters are continuing to explore and deploy remote technologies, not only for flexibility but also to better protect themselves in light of possible similar situations in the future. Putting technologies in place to mitigate this is prudent, and we are working with customers, as well as our partners around the world, to clearly show the possibilities with Calrec Assist. Assist allows customers to protect themselves by creating remote working practices, which were already evolving globally.”
Based on Calrec’s popular Brio console, the Assist UI will be familiar in terms of layout to users everywhere. Processing tabs reveal each section of the channel strip, and channel assign provides a quick way to change channel selection. This means there are minimal button presses required to reach any control on the desk. Assist provides powerful features like Automix and Autofaders, simple channel/bus configuration, sends and outputs and flexible metering. Assist can be accessed from multiple locations with a maximum of 48 virtual faders able to be used.
Harrison adds, “We are demonstrating how the technology makes control changes in real time, reflecting the changes made via the virtual UI on both a hardware panel and on a soft one too. As we have all seen, moves to remote ways of working have become essential for many of us and we strongly believe that regardless of the current environment, this trend is set to continue. Calrec Assist is also a way of ensuring maximum value to a customer who’s invested in our technology.”
